2-Day Stone Carving Workshop

Oglala Lakota stone carving artist Delbert Charging Crow will share the Lakota fetish carving tradition that is designed to awaken the stone carver in you. You will learn the process of selecting a stone, how to recognize the shape within the stone, the tools to use, and the carving techniques to bring it forth.

Required Class Materials

Please review the following required materials lists for the following classes (applies to both Albuquerque and Santa Fe classes):

Adults’ Basic Necklace Making:

(10) 2x2mm Crimp Beads
SoftFlex Beading Wire (at least 2 ft.)
Clasp of Your Choice
Beads of your choice (enough to complete a necklace of your desired length)

Tools (Provided During Class):
Wire Cutter
Crimp Tool
Bead Stopper(s)
Bead Board

Multi-Strand Class:

Have at least two (2) strands of beads already strung and ready to be affixed to your clasp.  Also, the wire for each strand should measure four inches (4”) longer than desired finished length.

Clasp (Pick a clasp suitable for a multi-strand necklace.  If you are unsure, wait and we will pick one out together.)

  • Learn to make mineral identification tags to match each item.
  • Visit our flourescent mineral room, where minerals glow in the dark!
  • Crack open a geode and see the mini-universe inside.
