We can all help change the world for the better through our individual actions. At Mama's Minerals, we give back to our community in a variety of ways. For example, we support education by offering free rock, mineral, and fossil classes to area students. We are also a firm believer in recycling.
Mama's Minerals collects donations for S.A.F.E. House during the holiday season. Since 1976, S.A.F.E. House has provided temporary shelter, services, and education for women and their children, who are in a state of crisis as a result of physical, sexual, emotional, or economic abuse, in order to help them rebuild their lives. You can help, too, by dropping off donations throughout the year (from January through November) at Second Chances, a thrift store across the street from our Albuquerque store. Second Chances is located at 1301 San Mateo NE; call 505-265-9233 for more information.
We offer a variety of free classes in Geology, Metaphysics and Beading that anyone can sign up for, as well as specialized Earth Science classes for schools and groups (such as the Girl Scouts).
If you're a teacher or group leader and would like to set up a free field trip to Mama's Minerals, call us at (505) 266-8443.
Recycling is a major part of the operations at Mama's Minerals' two retail stores and our mail order department, so don't be surprised when the package you receive is packed in a reused box and contains packing materials such as shredded paper, old newspapers, and twice-used (but still functional) bubble wrap. We've arranged with local businesses to supply us with their shredded office papers and cast-off boxes, so that world resources are preserved –- and landfill areas are less overburdened! You can help, too, by recycling the box and filler your order came in.
