A rare find! Gypsum var. Duckbill Selenite Floater Red River Valley Spillway, Winnipeg, Manitoba, CAN. A 1 1/2 " x 1 1/2" small cabinet specimen.
A floater crystal is a crystal that forms without attachment to a host rock or matrix and usually all sides of the crystal are undamaged. The unique shape of these selenite crystals give them their "Duckbill" nomiker. Selenite from this location can also often be twinned. A twinned crystals are two or more crystals of the same mineral that are tightly bonded together and share lattice points.
Selenite from this location is uv reactant and fluoresces a blue-white or sometimes a champagne color.
Mineralogy: Selenite is a form of gypsum, composed of hydrous calcium sulfate. Some of the largest and most impressive formations are found and mined in Mexico.
Metaphysical: With an intense effect on the upper chakras, selenite is thought to be exceptional at clearing energetic blockages and negativity.
