  • Native gold leaf Little Jonny Mine (Ibex Mine), Breece Hill, Leadville, Lake Co., Colorado. Great specimen for any collector!

A small specimen of crystalline native gold leaf from a desirable location. Such specimens have been very hard to get and there are few available. It is just big enough to appreciate with the naked eye but is still best viewed under a loupe.

Gold is a native element and precious metal. It occurs in three main types of deposits: in hydrothermal quartz veins in igneous and metamorphic rocks; in volcanic-exhalative sulfide deposits; and, in placer deposits. Gold belongs to the Isometric crystal system. Hardness is 2.5 – 3 on the Mohs scale.
